OUR CASHMERE

FROM NATURE TO US - THE GOLDEN FIBRE
Come With Us, Witness Our Innate Dedication To Pure, Ethical And Sustainable Cashmere.

Our cashmere fibres are sourced from native breeders in the highlands of Inner Mongolia and the desert to semidesert regions of Ningxia (Gansu Province, China). Here, the climate is harsh; winters are long, dry, and cold with frequent blizzards. Spring is short and fleeting, relatively mild with dangerous sandstorms. Despite the bleak temperatures, the goats are able to enjoy the vast space and live care-freely away from the disturbances of civilisation.

Beautiful people, beautiful land, beautiful animal, beautiful fibre.

Cashmere goats are hardy animals, thriving in stark conditions. In order to keep themselves warm during winter, the goats grows a layer of very fine and soft under fleece (The raw fibre of cashmere). When each goat starts moulting in spring, breeders and their family collect the fine under fleece cashmere fibres. The fibres are brushed using a special long comb, a process that is gentle and harmless. The outer coat is left intact, honouring the cycle of nature and preserving the integrity of each coat. Our practice recognises the importance of a peaceful and continuous cycle, fully respecting the naturally occurring fibres from the cashmere goat and encourages each goat to live without undue interference.

Cashmere fibres are scarce and precious as only a small amount (less than 250gm per goat per year) can be collected from each goat. Not all cashmere is equal in quality and scarcity. We pride ourselves on sourcing only the finest, long under fleece fibres, averaging 15.7 μm. This enables superior softness and fluffy, long lasting cashmere products. Our garments are as gentle and reliable as a faithful friend, enveloping you in warm, luxurious and lightweight cashmere heaven.

FROM OUR HANDS TO YOURS - THE MAKING

CASHMERISM has a rare advantage, as every process from initial design, to spun yarn and fully finished garments, pass through our hands. Our factory washes, combs, and dyes the cashmere fibres before spinning them into yarn. We knit each garment separately and link them together into final products. All garments go through strict quality control, washed , pressed, packaged and ready to be worn. We treasure each step and worker involved: our practices are carried out with gentle dignity, encompassing a compassionate mindset and working environment.

Our factory is a family run business that has operated for over 30 years. Ethical production has been fundamental from the very beginning, we go above and beyond when looking after our makers. We ensure staff receive the following benefits: wages, social security funds and pension funds. We have paid maternity leave, sick pay and medical insurance. Workers are entitled to subsidised lunches, overtime pay and participation in workplace unions. Staff have traditional 2-hour lunch breaks and we have an annual company sponsored trip at the end of each year.

We have our own waste water plant, where water is collected and cleaned. We strive towards a balanced, natural habitat with more than 50% of the factory’s land covered in foliage. We embody a conscious mindset and circular practice, inspired by the recurring cycles of nature. We cherish this natural world and hope we can pass our love and appreciation on to you, as owners of our garments.
